St. Jude Is Set to Pay $533 Million For Two Medical-Tech Companies
Wall Street Journal 
is closing out the year with acquisitions of two international medical-technology companies for a total of $533 million. Jude paid $250 million for Radi Medical AB of Sweden and agreed to pay $283 million in installments plus the assumption of a small amount of debt for MediGuide Inc. The deals were announced late Sunday and Monday.

In connection with the financing Essex Woodlands is buying more than 8. 5 million shares of ATS Medical common stock at a purchase price of $2. Volcano strikes deal to buy medical imaging component maker

“We are also pleased to merge with a company with the resources and managerial strength of Volcano to help us build on our leadership position in the communications and industrial spectroscopy markets. ”Volcano makes equipment for diagnosing and treating coronary and peripheral artery disease. Asxun has development partnerships with companies serving the cardiology and dental markets and expects to launch the first medical imaging systems using its optical coherence tomography (CT) technology in the first half of next year. Volcano plans to use Axsun’s technology in the development of new CT imaging systems. Axsun also makes light-based components and subsystems for industrial applications and telecommunications networks. It has an estimated 50 percent share of the high-performance segment of the optical monitoring market. Axsun has more than 90 U.
