Gulf Coast Medical Center merge

Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center and Gulf Coast Medical Center will merge at 7:00 a. The Emergency Department at Southwest Florida Regional closes and employees say there could be as many as 300 people will be moved to Gulf Coast Medical Center. The state is giving the system 24 hours to move into the 436000-square-foot expansion. Lee Memorial inherited the construction project and the plans for shuttering the aging Southwest in 2006. Completing the plan was part of the purchase agreement. Construction cost $285 million.

The findings are in a report on sexual violence issued to coincide with International Women’s Day. A director of Doctors Without Borders Meini Nicolai says sexual violence is a silent epidemic that has been going on for decades. “We feel that we need to speak out because our numbers are not going down” she said. “And we want the rest of the world to know what is happening and [know] all the medical psychological and social after-effects of sexual violence on the victim or survivor and the context in which they actually live.

Methodist would enter into a 20-year operating lease with the hospital authority both parties said. The partnership is expected to spur the expansion of Richardson Regional’s medical office building outpatient hospital and cancer center that opened in ctober. The hospital authority will retain ownership of the hospital. The deal is expected to be finalized by midyear.
