And that’s good because it’s never made sense that even though medical marijuana use is legal many New Mexico patients still fear eviction harassment and even arrest and prosecution when trying to use grow or otherwise procure their medicine. A total of 13 states have legalized the use of marijuana for serious medical conditions including Michigan which just approved it in 2008. Currently a total of 284 New Mexicans are registered to possess the drug for medicinal purposes — a small number when compared to California where hundreds of thousands of patients are approved to possess the drug.

court1 day agoSAN FRANCISC (AP) — A federal appeals court in California is weighing arguments from a medical marijuana advocacy group that wants to force the government to retract its claim that pot has no medicinal value. Lawyers from Americans for Safe Access told a three-judge panel of the 9th U. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday that the assessment by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Food and Drug Administration was based on conservative values not science. The group is appealing a lower court judge’s 2007 decision to dismiss its lawsuit which cited a federal law that allows citizens to seek correction of false information put out by the government.

Starzl who at 83 continues to practice medicine shared his thoughts on health care reform doctors and patients — a conversation that is the topic of the latest Doctor and Patient column and Podcast. Among the thoughts he shared:I believe we need to restore trust of society in medicine…. When I was in medical school the level of public trust in medicine was higher than it is today mainly because it was so non-commercial at the outset. Trust had eroded to some extent and medicine became a venture capitalbusiness as the years went by. I think there were other factors too. The public was really not well informed about medicine way back when. There’s been a tremendous upgrade of public information.

Tulare judge: Medical user should get pot back

At the time Tulare County Superior Court Judge Darryl Ferguson ruled that authorities should return just six of the 12 pounds that were confiscated when he was arrested by sheriff’s deputies in December. But Daleman argued that his doctor’s recommendation said he could possess six “processed pounds” excluding the parts of the plant he doesn’t use. In a decision Wednesday Ferguson ordered all 12 pounds of the marijuana be returned to Daleman saying all of it was “reasonably related” to his medical needs. ——— Information from: The Fresno Bee.
